Reverse Engineered Object: Progress

Image
For this assignment, I've been using the digital caliper to make exact measurements for a to-scale wii-remote. So far, what I'm taking the most from this is figuring out how to measure the fillet curves. I don't want to guess but since it's on such a small scale I know the fillet will be under a radius of one. Something else I found with this process is that when my curves start to get complex, I tend to use EdgeSrf as a way to close my objects. So far, I've been switching between writing diagrams in my sketchbook for the larger and more complex components while the small buttons I tend to use the measurements straight from the caliper.

Reverse Engineered Object: Selection

For this project, we had to find three objects that we could reverse engineer: in other words, take apart to make a 3D model of. I choose all of my objects because they are some of the only things around my dorm that I can take apart without consequences. The hand model has moving parts with the fingers, but I'm not entirely sure I could put it back together perfectly. On the other hand, the nail clippers I have taken apart and put back together countless times. I don't tend to own a lot of mechanical items that allow for me to take apart and put back together that is small enough to measure with the caliper, so these were the items that made up my choices. The object I'm most likely to pick is the Wii remote. I also ordered a screwdriver to open the inside with too, so it would give me a challenge to recreate the inner breadboards and such. The other two are moveable but not as nice to take apart. Not to mention, while they have some complex curves I think that they may be

Surface Design

Original: Updated 1.0: Updated 2.0 [Final] (re-hatched and circles moved over): When doing research, I ended up taking photos of pretty much anything that I thought was cool or that I liked. Only a handful was really applicable to my design though, but many inspired the concept. My design was based largely off of the last two references. I decided I wanted to go with koi fish in a pond and the flowers were roughly stemmed from the clothe with the blue background. The mural is the reason why I put a gold outline around the fish and through the flowers. I really enjoyed the fluid line art and wanted to replicate it. (This was done using offset after I made the whole body and flowers). I ended up drawing out some sketches for my surface design to understand how I planned on placing my curves in terms of the fins specifically. The outline for the fins were done as a combination of circles and arcs (using tangent) but I also used the interpolate points curve for parts that didn't need t
